The month of June was characterized by strong performance in risk assets for South African investors. SA equity had a good month, up 7%, and SA property experienced a welcomed bounce as the index rallied 13%. The South African market followed that of other emerging markets which outperformed developed equity by 4.6% in ZAR for the month. Resources and Industrials drove the market locally with a continued lag by Financials despite the bounce in local property. The yield curve in SA steepened as bond investors priced in the economic realities facing the country which were laid to bare by the Finance Minister in the supplementary budget.
