It was a difficult month for South African (SA) asset classes with SA property once again the worst performer falling -8.5%. Despite the general risk off sentiment the rand continued to strengthen, further depressing rand returns for global asset classes. Shaky developed equity markets due to US election uncertainty and the reimplementation of lockdowns in Europe led to poor performance in global equity and property markets. SA cash and bonds provided some safety for investors with local bonds the best performing asset class as the 10-year yield firmed with the currency.
