Generally, South African asset classes underperformed over the month as South African (SA) property and equity fell 8.6% and 0.9% respectively in rand terms. The dominant asset class was once again global equities, up 5.6%. The rand strengthened slightly against the US dollar closing at R16.94 at month end but softened somewhat relative to the euro and UK pound. The SA 10-year yield remained stubbornly high at just under 9.3% despite the repo rate at decade lows of 3.5%.
